Story of a Dane in Tirol

In june of 2015 I was visiting Tirol for work. Having never been on a mountain before I wanted to go on a hike. I walked from Mariasteinerhof to Almgasthof  Buchacker - alone on a friday. I was very lucky to meet four very nice and welcoming people. Alex, Albert, Anna and Andrea. They were so kind to invite me on one of their hikes for LLC Angerberg the following tuesday. I was very excited to go with them - only second time going up a mountain in my life - where I come from in Denmark there are no mountains - the highest point in Denmark is "Sky-mountain" whit it's impressive 147 m. So as a Dane in Tirol I felt kind of dwarfed.

Hundalmjoch - the Tuesday hike

I met up with the guys and girls from LLC - carrying only my water bottle. Looking at all their walking sticks, training clothes and GPS watches I knew they ment business! The first third of the hike was brisk, but it was no trouble making a bit of conversation, but nearing the halfway mark we were at a nice high place that didn't leave much breath for speaking. Halfway the trail got narrower and steeper, but the pace was still high, and I started to feel the pressure. We hiked through the woods, it was impressive, but when we came out to the meadow the view was even more spectacular. I was all but spent and started sagging behind the main group. But I pushed on - I wanted to reach the summit. The last few hundred meters acent was so beautiful and impressive in view - like nothing I had ever seen - all of Inntal from Kufstein to Kundl was there at my feet. Simply breathtaking! Not far to the summit now! Again the incline was steep, and almost no power in my legs, but I managed to push on the last part to the cross on the summit.

High fives were all around - and it was time to take photos and write in the book that was there: A Dane had conquered THIS mountain of 1800 m!

We went to Almgasthof  Buchacker on the way down, just for a little break and a beer and Kaspressknödel - of course.

And what a fantastic trip that day was! One very impressive experience - thank you all at LLC Angerberg!
